The afternoon session of New Faculty Orientation will begin with a plenary session: Know Every Student By Name and Story, which will provide an introduction to the teaching and learning culture at Washington University. Afterwards, there will be two breakout sessions where participants may choose from a list of four topics.
Breakout Session Topics
- Crafting an Inclusive and Effective Syllabus: The syllabus is likely one of the first places where students will begin to become acquainted with you and your course. Become familiar with our syllabus template and discover how a syllabus can set a positive, inclusive tone for the semester ahead.

- Teaching in a Standard WashU Classroom: You’ve made it to your classroom, but now what? Learn the ins and outs of the equipment in a standard WashU classroom, from using the projector, to recording a class, and everything in-between.
- Tools for Success: The Educational Technology Landscape at WashU: The amount of educational technology available can seem overwhelming, but we’re here to help! Come to our primer on educational technologies that enhance student learning, and learn about resources available at WashU to help you use them effectively.
