Classroom assessment techniques (CATs) are teaching tools designed to monitor student learning and provide ongoing feedback that can be used by both instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning. The workshop will define, compare, and contrast summative and formative assessment. The workshop will also discuss a number of effective CATs that participants could use in their current and future teaching and how to respond to data gathered from student responses. Participants will also design a CAT that can be used in their own classrooms, and consider ways to incorporate student feedback in their instruction.
