SUMMARY:GenAI\, Teaching\, and Learning: A Faculty Journal Club
DESCRIPTION:Much ink has been spilled about genAI and learning\, but the research is still very much in flux. Each month\, the journal club* on AI in education will discuss 1-2 research articles on genAI as it connects to teaching and learning. You are welcome to join whenever you can – whether once or every month! This event is co-organized by the Center for Teaching and Learning and the WashU Medicine Academy of Educators\, and meetings will rotate between the Medical and Danforth campuses. We warmly welcome suggestions for articles to discuss\, as well as volunteers to guide the discussion. You’re also welcome to bring your own brown-bag lunch if you’d like. \n* To those not familiar with the term\, a journal club is a gathering of scholars to discuss recently published academic papers. You’re not expected to have field-specific expertise on the articles’ focus – we’ll all contribute our perspectives and develop a fuller understanding in the process. \nDuring our Sept 24 meeting\, we’ll discuss Sina Rismanchian\, Hasan Uzun\, Jeffrey Matayoshi\, Eric Cosyn\, and Eyad Kurd-Misto’s ”Faster Completion\, Less Learning: Generative AI Reduced Study Time on Math Problems and the Knowledge They Build”. \n\nMeeting locations for Fall 2026: \n\n\nSept 24\, 10-11am: Danforth Campus\, TBD\nOct 26\, 11am-noon: Medical Campus\, Mid Campus Center\, Room 2057 (second floor)\nNov 12\, noon-1pm: Danforth Campus\, TBD\nDec 10\, noon-1pm: Medical Campus\, Mid Campus Center\, Room 2057 (second floor)\n\n  \nIf you have questions about this event\, contact Elina Salminen. \nRegistration\n\n \n \n GenAI\, Teaching\, and Learning: A Faculty Journal Club 9/24/26 @ 10a\n \n \n PhoneThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Preferred First Name (if different)WUSTL Email Address(Required)\n \n What is your role at WashU?(Required)Please Choose One:Adjunct InstructorAdministrator (Deans\, etc.)Assistant ProfessorAssociate ProfessorGraduate StudentLecturerLibrarianOtherPostdocProfessor (Full)Professor of PracticeSenior LecturerStaffTeaching ProfessorVisiting ProfessorIf you chose "Other\," please describe:Year in Graduate Program(Required)12345678910+Primary Program/Department(Required)Please Choose One:African and African American StudiesAmerican Culture StudiesAnthropologyArchitectureArt (Visual Art)Art History and ArchaeologyAudiology and Communication SciencesBiologyBiomedical Engineering (BME)BusinessChemistryClassicsCollege Writing ProgramComparative Literature & ThoughtComputer Science and Engineering (CSE)Continuing & Professional Studies (CAPS)Danforth CenterDBBS (Biochemistry Biophysics and Structural Biology)DBBS (Biomedical Informatics & Data Science)DBBS (Cancer Biology)DBBS (Computational and Systems Biology)DBBS (Developmental Regenerative and Stem Cell Biology)DBBS (Evolution Ecology and Population Biology)DBBS (Human and Statistical Genetics)DBBS (Immunology)DBBS (Molecular Biology)DBBS (Molecular Genetics and Genomics)DBBS (Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis)DBBS (Neurosciences)DBBS (Plant and Microbial Biosciences)Division of Computational and Data Sciences (DCDS)Earth\, Environmental\, and Planetary Sciences (EEPS)East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC)EconomicsEducationElectrical and Systems Engineering (ESE)Energy Environmental and Chemical Engineering (EECE)Engineering Communication CenterEnglishEnvironmental StudiesFilm and Media StudiesGenetics CounselingGermanic Languages and LiteraturesGlobal StudiesHistoryImaging ScienceInstitute of Materials Science and Engineering (IMSE)Jewish Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (JIMES)LawLibrariesLinguisticsMathematicsMechanical Engineering and Materials Science (MEMS)MedicineMSTPMusicN/A University AdministrationNursingOccupational Therapy (Rehabilitation and Participation Science)OtherPerforming ArtsPhilosophy (Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology)Physical TherapyPhysicsPolitical SciencePsychological and Brain SciencesPublic Health & Society (A&S)Public Health (School of)Religious StudiesRomance Languages and LiteraturesSever InstituteSocial WorkSociologyStatistics and Data ScienceWomen Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS)If you chose "Other\," please describe:The Center for Teaching and Learning is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants.
