| Summative assessments are designed to evaluate how much students have learned in a unit or a course. These assessments are often high-stakes, graded, and formal. The vast majority of college classes have summative assessments, but what does it take to make a particularly effective one? In this advanced-level workshop, we will discuss the benefits of using various assessment techniques (exams, papers, and alternative assessments) and aligning your assessments with course goals. Overall, we will examine how to design an assessment so that it is a truly authentic measure of student learning in the course. |
