Strategies for Early Career Faculty Members

Teachers of all levels experience stress, but early-career faculty members often have difficulty achieving a work-life balance. A recent article in The Chronicle of Higher Education offers tips to new faculty, particularly faculty on the tenure track, on how to prioritize and manage time more effectively. In terms of teaching, faculty should think about gaps in the curriculum and create a course that will benefit the department in multiple ways, Manya Whitaker, an assistant professor of education at Colorado College, writes in the article. Faculty should also consider co-teaching with someone in a different discipline to observe another teacher’s work and build relationships on campus.
