Overview

Registration is now open for the graduate student and postdoc Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Seminar!

SoTL is a field of study dedicated to systematic and reflective inquiry of the effects of one’s teaching practices on student learning. SoTL incorporates knowledge from educational and cognitive psychology research, and it leads to the dissemination of new knowledge.

Through biweekly synchronous meetings over Zoom and participating in asynchronous content during the Spring 2025 semester, participants in the SoTL seminar will gain exposure to SoTL research from varied disciplines, design a SoTL project, and engage in conversation and build relationships with other seminar attendees. Learn more about the seminar and see descriptions of projects designed by past participants on the seminar’s main page.

The SoTL Seminar is open to graduate students and postdocs at Washington University who have attended at least 3 advanced-level workshops through The Center for Teaching and Learning. Interested graduate students and postdocs are highly encouraged to discuss their interest with a member of the Center for Teaching and Learning staff to ensure that the SoTL seminar will be the best fit for their needs.

The biweekly synchronous meetings will be on Thursdays, 12-1pm and will start within the first few weeks of the semester.
