There’s Still Time to Cultivate Metacognition in Your Course

At this point in the semester, we know if our students have been learning our courses’ concepts and skills. But have we helped them grow as reflective learners who are able to identify how they are learning in order to improve their study processes and final products?

As we enter these last weeks of the semester, we still have time to help students cultivate metacognitive skills that will help them to understand and refine their learning processes in our courses and beyond. Drawing upon a study on how to foster metacognition in biology students, in this Faculty Focus post Maryellen Weimer offers some metacognitive strategies that can be easily integrated into your existing course plans.
